About
I am passionate about connecting people using technology. I’m also an avid motorcyclist, bicyclist, cook/foodie, wine lover, vinyl collector, marksman, practical joker and I have an unhealthy addiction to gummy candy — particularly gummy bears.
Computer-mediated relationships are something I’ve been obsessed with ever since I saw Fidonet on a Commodore 64 in the mid-1980s as a five year old. Through my teens, I built businesses focused on educating and connecting people to the Internet mostly for conversation and email.
As the web became mainstream, I switched my focus to creating content and online experiences, eventually producing online games.
These days, I’m focused on post-PC era interaction design that traverse multiple computing devices and modalities. While my technology interests are promiscuous, I’m currently focused on two businesses that exemplify this.
I came up with an idea five year ago for enhancing the television viewing experience and recently the time was right to turn it into a startup called TV Dinner. If you are interested, visit the website to get an invite. As we say, “Everyone will be famous for 15 nibbles.” :)
Adam Broitman and I also have an award-winning creative studio called Circ.us that produces advanced technological experiences for consumer brands. We were recently featured in the New York Times for our work on the augmented reality application for Ben and Jerry’s “Moo Vision” on the iPhone. Our work for A&E’s Criss Angel series has also received multiple nominations for interactive media.
Before that…
I was part of an amazing team at The Electric Sheep Company, an Emmy award-winning virtual worlds developer. While there I produced projects for NBC, Universal, Sundance Channel, and Edelman Digital.
And prior to being an Electric Sheep, I ran an interactive agency for six years. Actually I think we referred to ourselves as a “multimedia” shop back then, but that’s when CD-ROMs were hot stuff. I hired my friends away from college to work on building some of the earliest content management solutions on Linux. Our clients included the U.S. Department of Health, Media News Group, and Hersha Hospitality.
As an independent media producer, ok let’s just say — podcaster, I have produced hundreds of hours of recorded sessions on social software as well as award winning machinima.
I’ve interviewed a wide range of people including luminaries like Dr. Douglas Engelbart to some of the most colorful early adopters of Second Life. (Remember hearing about the flying penises in Second Life? Yeah, I interviewed that guy.)
